Minnesota State Grant

The Minnesota State Grant helps students from low and moderate income families pay for college. To be considered for this grant, you must be a Minnesota resident pursuing your first undergraduate certificate or degree.

Your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be received by the federal processor by October 7, 2009, for fall semester 2009 and February 17, 2010, for spring semester 2010, to be considered for Minnesota State Grant funding. If you want to apply for May/summer term 2010, you must have your FAFSA to the federal processor by June 22, 2010.

Maximum award

The offer made to you on your award notice is the maximum award for which you qualify based on 15 credits of registration each semester and the results of your FAFSA needs analysis. If you register for at least 3, but fewer than 15 credits, your award will be reduced on a credit-by-credit basis.

You are considered for state grant funding for up to the equivalent of nine full-time semesters of post-secondary education.

Reduction or cancellation

Your Minnesota State Grant award amount may be reduced or canceled if

  1. you enroll for fewer than 15 credits per term; or,

  2. you have attended postsecondary institutions full time for more than the equivalent of nine semesters. You may be required to complete a state grant questionnaire or a postsecondary educational history form to verify your eligibility before funds can be disbursed. You will be asked to provide academic transcripts from all of the institutions you previously attended if copies are not on record with the Office of Admissions; or,

  3. your award is revised due to changes in the state formula; or,

  4. your eligibility changes based on verification or application changes.
