National SMART (Science and Mathematics Access to Retain Talent) grant
If you are a Pell grant recipient, enrolled at least half time, and are majoring in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, engineering, or a critical foreign language, your student record will be evaluated to determine if you are eligible for one SMART grant in your junior year and one in your senior year.
Amount
Students enrolled full time are eligible for up to $4,000 each year. Students enrolled at least half time but less than full time will be evaluated for a reduced award based on enrollment level.
Eligibility
To be eligible for each academic year, you must:
- be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
- be Pell grant-eligible during the same award year
- be enrolled at least half time
- be in your junior or senior year of an undergraduate degree program
- major in physical, life, or computer sciences, mathematics, technology, engineering, or a critical foreign language
- have at least a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale as of the end of your sophomore year, and continue to maintain a 3.0 GPA as checked prior to the beginning of each semester
The annual award amount may be reduced by the U. S. Department of Education, if sufficient funds are not available for all eligible students in an award year.
