FAQ (frequenty-asked questions)
What is a student account?
Your student account is used to manage the billing and payment of student tuition, fees, on-campus housing and certain other campus charges. Every student has a student account. Most financial aid money is disbursed directly to your student account for payment of your tuition, fees, and other charges.
Each time you register, cancel, or add courses, a charge or credit is posted to your account. This account reflects your total charges for tuition, fees and other University charges. You can view your account transactions by date or by term.
Does my account work like a bank account?
Your student account is not a bank account. You will not earn interest. Do not hold money in it. Any balance that remains in the account after your charges are paid is money that will be transferred to you (with certain exceptions) by direct deposit to your bank or financial institution.
Will I get a statement on my student account?
If you are currently enrolled and have a student account balance due greater than $3, you will receive a monthy billling notice in your University-assigned e-mail account, beginning approximately two weeks after the start of your first semester. The e-mail will include a link to your billing statement from UM Pay, the University's online billing and payment system. Your tuition, on-campus housing charges, and charges from other University departments are included on the same bill.
If you receive enough financial aid to pay your entire account balance for the term, you will not be sent a billing statement. However, you may receive a credit balance transfer by direct deposi into your bank or checking account, if money remains after all of your charges are paid.
If you are not currently enrolled, or participate in the Senior Citizen Education Program, or have an approved exemption from electronic billing, you may receive paper bills.
You are responsible for paying by the scheduled due date even if you don't receive your statement, either by e-mail or mail. You are also responsible for maintaining a current mailing address with the University.
