Student Educational Loan Fund (SELF)
SELF is a low-interest student loan administered by the Minnesota Office of Higher Education available to undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at least half time in a degree or certificate program. You must have a creditworthy co-signer to receive this loan. You must make quarterly interest payments on this loan while you are in school.
If you are an eligible undergraduate, you will be offered a SELF loan on your eFAAN. If you accept your SELF offer, you will be directed to the online SELF application where your co-signer will be pre-approved before you complete the application, print it off for your signature and your co-signer's (which must be notarized), before mailing it to Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
If you are a graduate or professional school student, you may request a SELF loan by completing both the FAFSA and the Student Loan Supplement form at Forms Online or for pickup at the Student Services Center.
Promissory Note Required
If you accept a SELF loan, you will be required to complete online SELF counseling as well as an online SELF application. To complete your online application, your co-signer will first complete a section of the application in order to receive credit approval before you complete your section. Then, you will print off the application for your signature. Your co-signer will also need to sign the application in front of a notary. Mail the completed and signed application to Minnesota Office of Higher Education.
