Fund types available

Limited financial aid assistance is available for May/summer term, depending on how much of your annual loan limits you have already used during fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters. Once you have reached your annual loan limit for Federal Direct Student Loan and/or state Student Educational Loan Fund (SELF), you are not eligible for additional loans from those programs for May/summer term. Likewise, you are eligible for a Federal Pell Grant during the May/summer term, only if you have not used your full Pell Grant eligibility during fall and spring semesters (the 2007-2008 academic year).

If you are an undergraduate with remaining eligibility, you will be considered for the Minnesota State Grant, Federal Pell Grant, Ford Federal Direct Subsidized and Unsubsidized loans, Student Educational Loan Fund (SELF), and the Federal Parent PLUS loan. University Trust Loan (UTFL) funds may also be available on a limited basis. A May/summer Work-Study award will be offered to you, if you received Work-Study during the fall and spring terms. If you did not and are interested in receiving a May/summer Work-Study award, you may request these funds and be placed on a Work-Study wait list.

If you are a graduate student with remaining eligibility, you will be considered for state and federal Work-Study and federal Direct Subsidized, Unsubsidized and federal Graduate PLUS loans. If you have exhausted your annual maximum eligibility for subsidized and unsubsidized loans, then you will be awarded the Graduate PLUS loan up to your May/summer cost of attendance. The federal Graduate PLUS loan does require that you meet the federal credit check requirements in order to be eligible for the loan. However, if you have an adverse credit history, you will need an endorser (co-signer) for the Graduate PLUS loan.

If you have exhausted your eligibility for state and federal student loan programs, you may go to private loans online for information on May/summer term loan assistance.
