2006 UMACRAO/WACRAO conference begins November 1

This year, the Upper Midwest Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (UMACRAO) and the Wisconsin Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (WACRAO) are hosting a joint annual conference.

The conference will be held November 1-3 at the Hilton Mpls/St. Paul Airport. The theme, "Communication, Collaboration and Celebration," will explore how to maximize resources and relationships to create the best services possible.

This year's opening speaker will be Michele Norris, journalist and host of National Public Radio's /All Things Considered/. Norris is an award-winning journalist whose honors include an Emmy Award, a Peabody Award, and a Livingston Award. Michele is also a graduate of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities.

Three-time Guinness World Record-holder Dan Buettner will wrap up the conference as the endnote speaker. A pioneer in both exploration and education, Buetter has set several world records for endurance cycling and created one of the nation's premier adventure learning programs, Quest.

This year's events also include a trip to Underwater World at the Mall of America and a celebration of WACRAO's 75th anniversary. To register for the conference, visit UMACRAO's conference Web page.

Security feature returning to permission number report

Information Management Systems (IMS) will be returning its security feature to the permission number report. UM Report users will only be able to view permission numbers for classes owned by the college to which their hiring department belongs. Permission numbers should only be distributed by the department offering the class.Departments sharing permission numbers for any given class across college boundaries will need to make arrangements to accommodate this change.

The restrictions do not apply to the Permission Numbers for Instructors report which allows the instructors of record in PeopleSoft to view active permission numbers for their classes. Access to create and view permission numbers in PeopleSoft will remain unchanged.

Any questions about this security feature can be directed to Cindy Salyers.

Classes will be held on election night

On Tuesday, November 7, midterm elections will take place in Minnesota. All University classes will be held on that date. Instructors are expected to make reasonable accommodations for students who can only vote during class time. Students who will be late to, or absent from, class in order to vote on Tuesday, November 7 should speak with their instructor in advance of that date.
