Founders scholarship has a new name

The University's scholarship formerly known as the Founders Opportunity Scholarship has a new name: the University of Minnesota Founders Free Tuition Program. This new name was adopted to better reflect the benefits of the program and increase response, both with high school and community college students.

A new Web site and print materials will help promote this unique opportunity to the public. The Web site is available to view at http://www.founders.umn.edu/.

An update from Information Management Systems

Information Management Systems (IMS) implemented a new report in December 2006. The PCAS-UGRD Programs report provides a comprehensive list of approved degree programs for your college. This report details which programs require students to have a Sub Plan, require students to take summer coursework, and which programs require a minimum GPA for admission. This report can also be used to tell what minor programs are offered by a college and which programs require more than 120 credits to complete.

Many enhancements to reports also went live in December. On the Major/Minor Roster report, users now have the option to select a college and obtain a list of that college's majors. Also, the Degree Applicant report now includes a College Degree Approval column and filter functionality.

Stay tuned to future issues of the Record for more IMS updates!

Project update from the Office of the Registrar

The Office of the Registrar (OTR) has created online course search on the University Catalogs web page to identify internet-delivered and partial internet delivered courses offered by the University. This project also involved creation of an additional search option on the Class Search application titled “Internet-Delivered and Partial-Internet Delivered Courses Only".

Also, enhancements were made to the undergraduate degree clearance application in PeopleSoft. These enhancements include additional search functionality, subplan information, and additional degree status for colleges. Please note, only those courses that are indicated in the Electronic Course Authorization System (ECAS) as being internet-delivered will be shown as such in the search.

Student success and the University's future

Did you know that an improvement in graduation rates can help the University achieve its goal of becoming a top three public research institution? High graduation rates are one factor in the perception of a University as a top notch institution. With increasing tuition rates and a jump in the number of students who must work at least 20 hours per week to help pay for college, timely graduation can be challenging.

All advisers know that the relationship between an adviser and student is a critical factor in a student¿s success. OTR has made enhancements to the Academic Progress Audit System (APAS) that are further assist advisers and students in knowing a program's requirements. The Program and Curriculum Approval System (PCAS) ensures that changes in program requirements can be reflected in a student's APAS in a timely fashion. Stay tuned for more updates in the Record and in other publications regarding new tools and enhancements that will further support advisers' critical role in a students' goals at the University.
