FERPA training and brown bag sessions

Do you have a new staff member starting who will work with private student data and needs FERPA training?  Are your skills a bit rusty and you would like a refresher?  Have you always wondered when it is appropriate to share information with colleagues and other University officials?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, mark your calendar for an upcoming FERPA training session and/or FERPA lunch discussion.

ASR will offer three training sessions in the upcoming months:  April 2, 1:30-3:00 pm in 160L Williamson Hall; May 12, 1-2:30 pm in 160L Williamson Hall; and June 5, 1:30-3:00 in 198 Coffey Hall.  All levels of skill and understanding are welcome.

Also,we are pleased to offer FERPA lunch discussions. These will be informal brown bag sessions where you can talk with experts about your most vexing FERPA dilemmas. The first FERPA lunch session is scheduled for Monday, March 17 from noon-1 pm in 160L Williamson.

Contact Tina Falkner at rovic001@umn.edu to RSVP for either the training session(s) or the brown bag, or ask a question.

Reminder: re-print final exam schedules

A few adjustments and corrections were made to the final exam schedule at the beginning of the term (these are mostly related to the list of courses that qualify for 3-hour examinations).

If you have any printed copies of the final exam schedules posted in your offices or bulletin boards, please re-print and re-post, so that students are sure to get the most current information.

Printable dates and deadlines are available from this Web page: http://onestop.umn.edu/onestop/registration.html

Summer and fall 2008 registration process for graduate non-degree students

Many students may soon be contacting the University regarding registering and earning credit as non-degree seeking students. Typically, these students have been admitted for a future semester or are considering applying to a graduate program and want to take classes that will transfer once admitted. Detailed information about this program can be found online.

Beginning April 15, 2008, students interested in attending the University summer 2008 should submit a “Request for Graduate Credit” form to the department(s) offering the course(s) they are interested in. If the department’s Director of Graduate Studies or their designee approves the course(s) for graduate credit, the form is signed and forwarded to:

One Stop Services, 130 West Bank Skyway
219 19th Ave S.,
Minneapolis, MN 55455-0427 or faxed to: 612/626-9129.

Questions concerning this process can be directed to Amy Morrisey (or call: 612-624-6871) or Alison Frank-Quick (or call: 612-626-9116).

M Key authentication required beginning March 16

Beginning March 16, all HR/SA PeopleSoft users will be required to use their M Key to log into the system. If you use this system but did not receive your M Key, contact 1-HELP. For more information visit the M Key website at mkey.umn.edu.

One Stop new commenting process

One Stop Student Services will now be completing a comment in PeopleSoft for every customer contact. The goal of this process is to improve customer service efforts by providing sound documentation of the variety of student issues that reach One Stop counselors. As a result of this process, wait times in the One Stop centers may be a little longer. If you have any questions about this change, please contact Mary Koskan at m-kosk@umn.edu.
