Graduate non-degree registration for summer & fall 2007

Many students will soon be contacting University staff regarding registering as a non-degree seeking student and earning graduate credit. These students may have been admitted to a graduate program for a future term, or are considering applying to a graduate program and want to take classes that will transfer if they are admitted.

Beginning April 17, students interested in attending this summer should submit a Request for Graduate Credit form to the department(s) offering the course(s) in which they are interested. If the department's Director of Graduate Studies or his or her designate approves the course(s) for graduate credit, the should be signed and forwarded to:

Forms may also be faxed to 612-626-9129.>

Students interested in registering for fall can submit their forms beginning May 4. Detailed information can be found on the One Stop Web site or by contacting Amy Morrisey at 612-624-6871, morri107@umn.edu  or Alison Frank-Quick at 612-626-9116, fran0332@umn.edu.

Demonstrations of new general purpose classroom schedule viewer

The Office of Classroom Management (OCM) will soon roll out a new General Purpose Classroom Schedule Viewer to the entire campus community.OCM is excited about the added functionality the new Web Viewer will provide. Demonstrations will be available on the following days:

Thursday, April 26        2:30-3:30 p.m.       Classroom Office Building B25 (St. Paul Campus)
Tuesday, May 1           9:30-10:30 a.m.     Nicholson Hall 35
Wednesday, May 2     10:30-11:30 a.m.    Blegan Hall 415

While it will continue to display room schedules in the familiar grid form, new functionality includes the ability to initiate an event request by clicking on an available time slot within a specific room grid. The day/time/room information will pre-populate the new room requests form and you can then provide additional information specific to your event.

Additionally, users will now be able to track the status of the request--Pending or Approved---by clicking the My Requests link. Both of these functions will require x.500 authentication. Information from requests will be entered in the R25 scheduling database automatically. This will speed up the scheduling process and eliminate the possibility of data entry errors by room schedulers.

OCM's goal is to go-live with the improved General Purpose Schedule Viewer by the end of April. Details will follow on the OCM Web site. For more information, contact Nancy Peterson at n-pete@umn.edu.

Important note about permission numbers

At the request of academic departmental staff, new fields have been added to the Class Permission Number page. The "Issued to ID" field is an optional field that may be used to track to whom a permission number has been given. The "Issued to Name" field will fill in automatically, based on the ID entered in the "Issued to ID" field.

Please note that these fields are for tracking purposes only. There is no system check to verify that the ID listed in the "Issued to ID" field matches the ID of the students who uses the Class Permission number in the registration system.

These fields will also be present on the Student Specific Permission Number page but will not be available since the ID is to be entered in the ID field.

A two page document that more fully explains this change is available on the Training Web site.

Questions can be directed to the Student Records Helpline at 612-625-2803.
